Ginger + Turmeric Tea for Cold Season

Posted by Linda Aldredge on

I don’t know about you guys but I’ve been walloped by colds and hay fever this season. This recipe is my standard ginger / lemon / honey cold season tea but this year I have added fresh turmeric and it’s a revelation. It’s the kind of tea that actually feels like I’m being healed as I drink it. It will not disappoint.

GINGER + TURMERIC TEA

1 to 1.5 inch knob of ginger
1.5 inch knob of fresh turmeric
1 half of a lemon
1 TBL of raw honey

Gently slice both ginger + turmeric on a mandolin directly into the pot where you will brew the tea—I use a 2 quart pot. Fill the pot with water to about an inch below the top of the pot. Bring the water to a rolling boil then turn it down to a simmer, cover the pot and let simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Take off the heat and add the tablespoon of honey, stir until it dissolves. Squeeze the entire half of lemon into the pot and stir again. When ladeling tea into a cup be sure to use a tea strainer to filter out larger chunks. I return the larger chunks back into the pot to both let them steep some more and to refill and boil again when empty. To spike this tea for max cold benefit add a pinch of cayenne or thyme or both, I also add whiskey for a hippie hot toddy. Enjoy!
